Do I need wash or clean the bottom of my new GOODE ski before I use it?

No, your ski will arrive to you pre-sanded and ready to ski. Just be sure and inspect the ski to make sure that there was no damage caused by shipping.

Where should I mount my bindings?

If you are mounting bindings, be sure to use our Factory Specifications found in your printed Technical Manual or on our web site. (Rubber Boot, PowerShell)

Do I need to adjust my fin before I ski?

No, your ski will arrive with the fin set to factory specifications. Check to make sure that the fin and wing are secure and that no movement has taken place during shipping.

When I first tried the GOODE ski my tip seemed high out of the water and everyone said the water was breaking too far back. Should I move my bindings forward?

No. Do not move your bindings forward. This is a very common when first switching to a GOODE ski. We designed the ski with a narrow tail. If you move your bindings forward, you will lose your on-side turn. It does not matter where the water breaks behind the boat or riding straight, it is important where it breaks in the turns. You will be skiing faster from buoy to buoy on the GOODE ski and therefore the ski will ride higher in the water. If you need the tip to come down, shift your weight forward. Try this at least 3 sets. If the tip still does not come down, a fin adjustment can be made.

When I am pulling out for the gates my ski feels "squirrelly". What can I do to stop this?

We call this "Searching" or "Hunting" for an edge. GOODE skis are designed with a full edge-to-edge concave bottom. This bottom design gives the skis their maximum performance in the ski course and it also causes this "Hunting" to occur. There are two ways to correct this problem:
  1. Techniques change - Don't ride a flat ski. When pulling out for the gates, pull slower, keep the ski on the pulling edge, then make a "turn" to the gates. This is the way World Record holder Jeff Rodgers does it. It is the best way to correct this problem. If you need to ride flat behind the boat, stay in the "white water". This will tone down the edge "Searching".
  2. Sand the bottom edge bevel rounder. BE CAREFUL, it is easy to round the bevel, but it cannot be put back. Excessive sanding may void your warranty. This will tone down the edge "Searching", but may also lessen performance in the course.
