The 2009 World Championships, held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada,
concluded on Sunday! Dawn and I spent a week at this biannual event ,
as GOODE was a proud sponsor.
Calgary and the Organizers did a magnificent job preparing for the
World Tournament. Over 200 of the world's best skiers, representing 40
countries, competed for Gold, Silver and Bronze.
The weather started out unseasonably cold and rainy, but ended with
beautiful sunny skies, delightful temperatures and great skiing!
More great skiing will come later this week with the start of the
67th GOODE Water Ski National Championships and the Big DAWG Finals in
West Palm Beach, Florida.
CALGARY, AB, CANADA - The 2009 IWSF World Championships concluded
Sunday with Will Asher (GBR) and Whitney McClintock (CAN) taking
the coveted Slalom Gold Medals. Whitney also won Women's Tricks
and Women's Overall.
GOODE Team skier and 2007 Slalom World Champion, Thomas
Degasperi (ITA), and Co-World Record Holder Karina Nowlan (AUS),
finished second and third, in their respective events.
" "Hats Off" to the Calgary 2009 World Championships organizing
committee for doing such an outstanding job.", said Dave Goode.
"There were more than 200 atheletes, representing 40 nations, that
participated in this World event called "DRENCHED", which featured
13 Canadian bands performing on two stages that surrounded the
tournament ski lake.
The 67th GOODE Water Ski National Championship is the World's
largest three-event water ski tournament and takes place August
11-15 at the Ski Club of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach,
Florida.
More than 800 of the nation's top water ski athletes from
across the United States will compete for national titles in
slalom, tricks, jumping and overall in their respective age
divisions and the two Open divisions. Advancement to the national
championships is earned through placement on the national
rankings' list for respective divisions.
In addition to the Nationals, the fourth annual Big Dawg Slalom
Championship will be held as a separate sanctioned event at
Okeeheelee Park on August 13 and 14. Qualifying rounds for the
championship will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13 on
the North-South Slalom Lake. The 16 skier head-to-head finals will
be held under the lights on Friday, August 14, on the East-West
Trick Lake. The start time for the finals is yet to be announced.

THOMAS DEGASPERI EARNS THE SLALOM SILVER MEDAL ON HIS WIDE RIDE
CALGARY, AB, CANADA - The 2007 World Champion, Thomas Degasperi (ITA),
earned the silver medal at the 2009 IWSF World Championships in
Men's Slalom on his GOODE 9900SL WIDE RIDE, by running 1 buoy at
41'off/10.25 meters. Will Asher (GBR) won the gold medal while
Chris Rossi (USA) earned the bronze.
"I just love my GOODE 9900SL WIDE RIDE." said a happy Thomas
Degasperi. "The wider front end of the WIDE RIDE helps to keep the
ski moving in the turn. I get a lot of support from its wider
front end, too! It is easy to ski and very stable.", Degasperi
concludes.
The 9900SL "WIDE RIDE" has an extra wide forebody to help
provide support at the buoy while skiing. The 9900SL "WIDE RIDE"
is the result of a two year R & D project.
The 9900SL "WIDE RIDE" uses GOODE's SL asymmetric features.
There are two skis in each length and flex, each designed for a
specific skier, Right-Foot Forward or Left-Foot Forward. The
9900SL "WIDE RIDE" is made with an all new premium grade PURE
Carbon Fiber construction.
Skiers trying the WIDE RIDE for the first time immediately feel
the additional support at the buoy as well as increased speed
across course.
Each 9900SL "WIDE RIDE" ski compensates for the flex and
torsional differences introduced by different skiing styles and
virtually removes the idea of an "Off- Side" turn.
