I hope your are enjoying your winter season! Dawn and I have been
getting out snow skiing quite a bit and the snow in Utah is great!
In January, we escaped winter's grasp for a get away to Costa Rica.
Earlier this month we visited our friends in Imperial, CA for another
blast of water skiing.

The tournament schedule for the 2009 GOODE Water Ski National
Championships, presented by Speedo, is now available. The 67th
annual event, the world's largest three-event water ski
tournament, will take place August 11-15 in West Palm Beach, FL.
More than 800 of the nation's top water ski athletes from
across the United States will compete for national titles in
slalom, tricks, jumping and overall, in respective age divisions
and two Open divisions. Advancement to the national championships
is earned through placement on the national rankings' list for
respective divisions.
In addition to the Nationals, the fourth annual Big Dawg Slalom
Championship will be held as a separate sanctioned event at
Okeeheelee Park on Aug. 13 and 14. The final qualifying round
for the championship will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug.
13 on the North-South Slalom Lake. The 16-skier head-to-head
finals will be held under the lights at night on Friday, Aug.
14, on the East-West Trick Lake. The start time for the finals
is to be announced.
GOODE Ski Technologies is proud to again be the Title Sponsor
of the GOODE Water Ski National Championships.
The following is an email excerpt from Paul Donatt, a MENS 5 skier
from Southern California.
Dave, I wanted to give you an update on the new ski -- 64'
9900 Wide Ride-Right. I have been riding this ski now for about 1
1/2 months. I have not written you sooner because I wanted to
thoroughly test it.
I have been mainly skiing at 32 and 35 off (but I have also had
my best 38's EVER). I have never skied them as well as I am skiing
them on this ski. I find my ski finishes the turn at the ball and
gets me to the other side earlier than any other ski.
I have never had more time at the ball (pre turn). The ski has
amazing acceleration and swings me wide into the turns. I am
skiing with more weight on my front foot. I find myself moving
with the boat -- my weight going forward in the turn and then I am
able to move across instead of back.
Several people have commented on how awesome I am skiing on
this ski. My turns are balanced and predictable. Over the past 2
days I ran 15 out of 16 35's. I started at 35 off both sets.
I wanted to thank you for this opportunity to test this ski. I
am having more fun skiing now than ever before!!
LIMA, PERU - GOODE Skier and USA athlete, Caroline Hensley, won
the gold medal in slalom by running 2 @ 38'off at the 12th Junior
Water Ski World Championships, January 7-11, at the Bujama Lacus
Lakes in Lima, Peru. In the preliminary round earlier in the week,
Hensley tied the women's junior world slalom record with a score
of 3 buoys at 38 off to earn the top seed for the finals.
Hensley won two gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal.
She also won the gold medal in women's overall.
GOODE Skier and Mexican athlete, Sandro
Ambrosi, earned the silver medal, scoring 3 @ 38' off.
The US Junior Water Ski Team won the gold medal with 8,053.97
points, France earned the silver medal with 7,801.4 points, and
Australia earned the bronze medal with 6,673.16 points.
Dawn and I returned from a great adventure to Water Ski Costa
Rica. Jim Kilsdonk is a great host and really knows how to treat
his guests well.
During our week-long stay in Costa Rica, we made new friends,
saw many things, experienced exciting adventures, laughed a lot,
and skied a ton.
I was really happy with the performance of the PowerVest. Dawn
had not skied since mid September and I had not skied in 5 weeks.
In past 'off-season' skiing scenarios, I would always feel as if
my arms, shoulders and back were being hit with a sledgehammer for
the first week of water skiing. I was happy that the PowerVest
worked perfectly! I only felt a nice 'glow' to my upper body
muscles!
Many of the guests tried the GOODE 9900SL WIDE RIDE during
their stay in Costa Rica. Everyone who tried it either set or tied
their Personal Best! The general comments are that the ski is very
predictable, stable and turns on a dime!
